National Council Recommendations
Phi Mus are invited to participate in the nominating process for National Council. During the 2008 National Convention in Orlando, Fl., National Council officers will be elected. By submitting recommendations to the Nominating Committee, you become an integral part of electing those who will lead the Fraternity.
National President, Vice President Collegiate Operations, Vice President Collegiate Membership, Vice President Alumnae and Vice President Finance. The positions appointed by the National Council, will be Vice President Communications and Extension and Vice President Panhellenic.
According to our Bylaws, a member of National Council must have served as an officer of the Fraternity and the National President must have served on National Council for at least one term during the previous three biennia (Article II, Section 2.) Officers shall serve a two-year term.
Who may recommend a candidate?
Recommendations for candidates may come from any Phi Mu member in good standing and should be on the standard endorsement form found here or at www.phimu.org/membersonly/.
Please note that the deadline for receiving recommendations is December 1, 2007. The form below may be reproduced and submitted to the National Headquarters as indicated. The Nominating Committee will only consider information submitted in the proper format, utilizing the form below.
What are the duties of elected National Council members?
President: As chief executive officer of the Fraternity, directs all work of Fraternity officers and committees, interprets policy and provides inspiration to all for continuing service to the Fraternity. Presides over all sessions of National Convention and at National Council and National Executive Committee meetings.
Vice President Collegiate Operations: Performs all duties and is vested with all powers of the President in her absence or temporary inability to serve. Directs all officers and activities related to the organization and administration of collegiate chapters, except for the membership recruitment program.
Vice President Collegiate Membership: Directs all officers and activities related to the program and selections of new members including collegiate membership program of the Fraternity and its policies and procedures. Supervises the administration of colonies. Has charge of the Chapter Consultant program under the general supervision of the National Council.
Vice President Alumnae: Directs all officers and activities related to the alumnae program. Approves petitions for alumnae chapter charters.
Vice President Finance: Responsible for the direction and supervision of the Fraternity’s financial affairs. Serves as an exofficio member of all house corporation boards of directors.
What are the duties of appointed National Council members?
Vice President Communications and Extension: Develops a program of public relations to promote Phi Mu Fraternity nationally, in the community, on the campus, and within the Fraternity, supervises the extension program of the Fraternity with advice and approval of the National Council and the production of The Aglaia.
Vice President Panhellenic: Represents the Fraternity at all meetings of the National Panhellenic Conference and reports on proceedings of NPC to the Fraternity and carries out the duties assigned to her by the NPC Chairman.
