Hats off to the Sisterhood Luncheon by Robin Benoit, ΕΝ, Oklahoma State University
Erma Bombeck once said, “I have a hat. It is graceful and feminine and gives me a certain dignity, as if I were attending a state funeral or something. Someday I may get up enough courage to wear it, instead of carrying it.” Erma Bombeck would have been proud as Phi Mus came to the Sisterhood Luncheon wearing their hats. And, although the true measure of a woman is found under her hat, I must admit that these hats measured up to some of the finest I’ve ever seen. There were pink hats, black hats, red hats and white hats. There were hats with flowers, feathers, ribbons and bows. There were polka dots and stripes and geometric designs. There were as many styles of hats as there were unique personalities in the room. While this luncheon may have challenged the Kentucky Derby as far as hats are concerned, it was so much more special than that. You could say that this luncheon was wearing more than one hat that day. Our Phi Mu sister, Toria Tolley, ΒΝ, formerly of CNN, was our special guest and keynote speaker for the luncheon. She explained her role as a public relations consultant to Phi Mu National Council and staff. She spoke about journalism in the age of the internet and encouraged us to be cautious about our personal information and to maintain Phi Mu standards on our websites, blogs, Facebook accounts and in other digital media. Thank you to everyone who made the Sisterhood Luncheon such a special event. It will forever be one of my favorite memories of this Convention and for that I say, “Hats off to Phi Mu!”
