Remembering Past National President Ada Martin Henry Members of Phi Mu Fraternity were saddened by the death of Past National President Ada Martin Henry who passed away in Indianapolis on Thursday, March 13. She was 90 years old.
Ada was initiated into Rho Chapter at Hanover College in 1937. She served on Phi Mu’s National Council from 1964 - 1966 as the Collegiate Finance Director, then as Collegiate Vice President from 1968 - 1972 and as National President from 1974 - 1978. After serving two terms as National President, Ada was immediately elected to the position of Phi Mu Foundation President, serving in that capacity from 1978 - 1984. She was one of only two National Presidents to preside over both the Fraternity and the Foundation. In 1986, she established the Ada Martin Henry Family Fund. The fund supports the Foundation’s scholarship charm program which annually recognizes collegians who have attained a 4.0 GPA. Ada was named honorary chairman of the Steering Committee for the Campaign for Phi Mu in 2001. The Foundation wing at Phi Mu National Headquarters is dedicated to Ada and Harry Henry, her husband of 60 years who predeceased her in 2002. Both graduated from Hanover College where a lecture room is dedicated in their name. Ada is survived by her two sisters, Ruth Ward and Jean Marshall, Ρ; three children, Beth Gray, Ρ, Barbara Bowen and Tom Henry; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. “Ada made an excellent President.
