Alumnae Chapters Support Children’s Miracle Network, Too!
The support of our alumnae chapters is critically important for the success of Phi Mu’s partnership with Children’s Miracle Network. Many chapters team up with their Heart to Heart collegiate chapter in fundraising, others have a yearly fundraising event and still others dream up new ideas each year. Below are two of our alumnae chapters who have given consistent support to Children’s Miracle Network over the years. We couldn’t do it without you!

Cleveland Alumnae Chapter
The Cleveland Alumnae Chapter holds various fundraising events throughout the year and raised over $2000 for Children’s Miracle Network in 2007 alone! One of their most popular events has been the sale of entertainment books. “Our proceeds go to Children’s Miracle Network, but we have the added benefit of using these books ourselves,” says Rose Ray, DP, Cleveland Alumnae Chapter President. “We have a bi-monthly dinner out together using our coupon books. It’s very popular with the entire chapter, and we intend to continue this fundraiser each year.”

In November, a chapter member who is a Premier Jewelry Hostess gave a Premier Jewelry Party with all of the profits of the party going to Children’s Miracle Network. “Having this party during the Christmas shopping season boosted our sales to over $500 toward Children’s Miracle Network,” says Rose.

Another popular event for the chapter is their sale of Valentine’s Care Packages for their Heart to Heart Chapters Delta Omega and Delta Iota, as well as Delta Phi. Rose notes, “We send cards to the parents of the members, who return a personalized card to their daughters and a check for $12 to Children’s Miracle Network. Alumnae chapter members donate the goodies for the packages and surprise the collegians with the gifts on Valentine’s Day!” Putting the bags together at an alumnae chapter meeting is always a highlight and a fun sisterhood development activity that raised over $400 in 2007.

The Cleveland Alumnae Chapter tries to top what they did the previous year, and Rose says she always encourages chapter members to “think outside their fundraising comfort zone. We always want to do different things and not stick with a bake sale or car wash. We want to be creative with our fundraising for Children’s Miracle Network because it’s such an important part of our Phi Mu membership.”

St. Louis Alumnae Chapter
The St. Louis Alumnae Chapter has hit on a very successful Children’s Miracle Network fundraiser for the last five years—they sell green carnations on St. Patrick’s Day to passersby in St. Louis’s Union Station Terminal and at the local Wal-Mart, as well as to corporate sponsors, for 50 cents each. “In 2007 we raised over $2000 selling these green carnations for Children’s Miracle Network—in one day!” says Chapter President Kim Poe, C. “This year, we will only be selling to corporate sponsors. They buy the carnations from us in bulk and then distribute them to employees or clients. We give them a basket and a sign to display with the carnations, stating that the purchase of these carnation benefits Children’s Miracle Network. It’s a big hit!”
