Four Chapters Celebrate Landmark Anniversaries
Several Phi Mu chapters wished themselves “Happy Birthday!” in grand style this fall as they celebrated remarkable anniversaries. Alpha Upsilon, Gamma Delta, Kappa and Alpha Alpha all held events to honor their exceptional histories, reminisce about great times with sisters and share exciting changes on the horizon.

Phi Mu National President Robin White Fanning was able to attend both Gamma Delta’s and Kappa’s anniversary celebrations. “It’s great to see so many chapters celebrating lengthy years on their campuses,” says Robin. “I think it also says a lot about Phi Mu’s
commitment to a particular campus and the dedication of the alumnae.”

Whether your charter was signed just a few years ago or over one hundred,
Robin says that the guiding principle behind Phi Mu’s success and
longevity is the same.

ALPHA UPSILON CHAPTER, MCNEESE STATE UNIVERSITY
50 years

Alpha Upsilon_website.jpgOn Homecoming Day, October 25th 2008, the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Phi Mu celebrated its 50th year on McNeese State University’s campus. Around 75 alumnae, from all over the country, were in attendance. Guests enjoyed lunch at a local Cajun restaurant and then headed to the Phi Mu house for a reception held by current chapter members.

Sisters gathered to take pictures for the local newspaper before heading to the football stadium for the Homecoming Game, which was particularly special for members—not only was it the chapter’s 50th anniversary, but three members of the Homecoming Court including the queen, were members of the Alpha Upsilon Chapter.

GAMMA DELTA CHAPTER, AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
75 Years

Gamma_Delta_website.jpgSome 250 Gamma Delta sisters at American University in Washington, D.C., commemorated its 75th anniversary on October 25. Chartered in 1933, Gamma Delta holds the honor of being the very first sorority on its campus.

The evening began with a cocktail reception for alumnae and parents.

Following dinner, National Historian Mary Jane Johnson, Past National President and Gamma Delta alumna, spoke about Phi Mu’s rich history and bright future. National President Robin White Fanning, BI, delivered an update on the exciting current state of the Fraternity. National Council member Diane Eggert, ZI, Vice President Finance, also
attended the celebration.

KAPPA CHAPTER, UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE
100 Years

Kappa_website.jpgIt’s an age most people aspire to reach – 100. Kappa Chapter at the University of Tennessee celebrated its centennial year on November 7th and 8th in Knoxville, Tenn. More than one hundred sisters gathered for dinner, drinks, and dancing to toast their chapter’s proud history.

The anniversary planning committee had previously surveyed Kappa alumnae in order to discover some of their fondest memories. The group compiled them by decade and presented them to an eager and nostalgic crowd.

As they look to the future, an event that surely will make its mark in the chapter’s history book is set: Kappa is breaking ground on a new house in 2009.

ALPHA ALPHA CHAPTER, UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA
150th year of their house

Alpha_Alpha_house_website.jpgWhen celebrating the 150th birthday for the beloved home of the Alpha Alpha Chapter at the University of Georgia, 250 South Milledge Avenue, a cake and a few pink balloons just wouldn’t do the job. The occasion was marked with a day bursting with sisterhood and memories.

On the morning of September 20th, collegians threw open the doors to the chapter house. Alumnae were welcomed in with tours, and were invited to purchase crafts made by Alpha Alpha members as well as register for the chapter’s brand new Chapter Association.

As all in attendance gathered for lunch, Housing Corporation President Laura Brown detailed the house’s distinguished history. Author and Alpha Alpha alumna Kimberly Kennedy enlightened guests on how to prepare beautiful homemade items, and keynote speaker Julianne Chambliss, wife of Saxby Chambliss, U.S. Senator from Georgia, entertained with stories of the chapter’s first-ever “Washboard Band.”
